Artist's Comments

A real photographer, to me, Is anyone whom takes pictures, and puts effort into them. That try to better their photography, as well as themselves in the process. Who keep their eyes and minds open, learning both from their mistakes as well as others. Their photography does not necessarily have to be good, but they are TRYING.

Recently, with the how 'affordable' digital SLR cameras have become, there has a been a certain group of people, who with a non-DSLR camera could not get a Decent picture, so they bought a DSLR rather than improve themselves. Their pictures are then so "good" (clear, in focus, correct exposure) that they think that this is owed completely to them, when all they really did is point and shoot, not even taking time to set up the picture. They then upload a billion of these pictures and say how great they are. I don't support people like this, because as soon as you think you know everything about something, you stop learning. You're mind shuts off and your eyes and ears are sealed with putty.

If you object to this, you are probably one of these people, or you fail to grasp the concept behind it. I'm sorry if you don't.

For those of you who read my former artists comments, I apologize. They were written in a fit of rage against just about everyone in the world, and thus made it sound like I also hated those whom were trying to better their photography. This is not true. I will support anyone who is TRYING and who is being creative.

For any of you who are just starting out, and trying to get better at photography, Play around with your camera. A lot. And I would highly recommend getting a non DSLR camera, as the DSLRs have a limited lifetime, and you will want to take A LOT of pictures while you are learning, to figure out all the SCN settings as well as Manual settings (if you have them). If you are really serious about photography, I would suggest getting a Kodak Full bodied camera like the P880. It has some of the features of the DSLR (manual focus, manual zoom) but it much easier to use, as well as cheaper. Another great camera is the Cannon Powershots. Buying a DSLR when your a beginner is kind of like buying a F1 car to learn to drive in. There are capabilities thaty ou will never use, and it's a lot more expensive.

So I hope that explains this better. And I do not hate everyone with a DSLR. I quite enjoy the photographs of *CameraDude and *EvilxElf and they use a Nikon D70 and Cannon EOS, respectively.

Definitely.

I'm just getting tired of seeing idiots that can barely aim the camera getting all this positive attention because one of their billion photos turned out fairly good, purely by luck, and Having a fantastic camera.

Love it. <3 Very true.
I've got this friend that's utter shit behind a lens but she recently bought a very expensive camera that does the work for her and now she thinks she's gods gift to photography.

too true bro, I'm just starting to run the path of photography. I think with a little more practice (and more things to take pictures OF lol) I can make some good use out of my camera

Riley i hope you realize that by saying this its, you are like those people who say "anime isn't an art", or "people who draw anime aren't really artists", and yet you admire our work, so what the crap!?! You're probably going to say thats not what it means but i'm so insulted! I LOVE taking pictures, but i am definitely not good at it yet. I don't have a good camera and i want to work on taking good photos. I consider myself a Photographer because i'm trying to excel in photography, and this stamp tells me that i'm not a photographer. I'm sure you know how upset i get when i see those "anime isn't art" things and thats pretty much how i feel about this.

Okay, so first of all, I understand the feeling that just because someone has something better than what I have, doesn't make them better than me. BUT...this arguement doesn't entirely make sense. The definition of a "photographer" is "one who takes photographs." Whether you're good or not, if you take pictures, you can call yourself a photographer. If you're just upset because people get attention for taking good shots with a good camera, TAKE BETTER SHOTS WITH YOUR CAMERA, and STOP COMPLAINING. All you're doing is alienating people when you say stuff like that because most of them can take pictures, whether you want to believe it or not. Unfortunately, I have to say that having a better camera usually helps you take better shots, but you shouldn't be bitter because people CAN take better shots than you because of it. All I can say is GET BETTER. Everyone can be a photographer, whether for themselves or professionally, but you shouldn't look down on those with better cameras just because they have them.
:iconchasingafteryou:
Okay. First off, I understand that anyone that takes pictures is a photographer by definition, But Just because I can draw a crappy stickfigure, I don't consider myself an artist. DA is a place for art. I'm not dissing everyone that has a better camera. If you look through my favs, or my watch list, you'll notice that many of the people I watch/fave have D SLR. That's great, but I faved their work because of their TALENT. The ability to set up the photos well. I can complain all I want, just like you have the right to write a huge paragraph explaining to me your opinions. And I merely am getting tired of the people that are taking a billion pictures of the same thing, that has absolutely no artistic value, and than posting it on an art website. I know I can not stop them. I'm merely supporting those who can in fact take great pictures. I am not against people that take crappy pictures and are trying to get better, I'm all for that. Everyone needs to learn, it's the ones that take crappy pictures and are deluded into thinking that their pictures are fantastic. I'm Not angry that people can take better shots than me because they have a better camera, There are some great photographers on DA, I respect them fully. I am always learning, and hope to get a DSLR soon, I am constantly trying to get better, and plan on getting a better camera soon.

Once again, let me reiterate that I DO NOT look down on people just because they have a DSLR. I look down on them because they spent a shitload of money on a camera that most of them will never take out of "automatic" mode, and Most of them don't even understand what the difference is between a Regular Digital camera and a DSLR. I merely think it's kind of stupid to spend $500+ on a camera to learn on, when they could spend Much less and not have to replace the camera after 70,000 shutter actuations.

So, I hope that you can see what I meant now, as you obviously didn't understand from the artists comments, even though some of the things you said went directly against my statements.

*exasperated sigh*

Okay. So first off, You don't have a Digital SLR. You're pictures aren't that bad, and this stamp was intened for people who have a DSLR camera, take pictures that require no skill, and aren't that great, and then say how great they are. That's insulting to me, because it would be like if I drew a stick figure and claimed it was awesome looking and that it looked better than you/akane's art. These are people that are satisfied with their poor skills, and don't want to better themselves. They spent $500+ on a camera that has a limited lifetime (50k-100k shutter actuations) and they can not properly manipulate it. They may get lucky and actually get a good picture occasionally, but they could do the same with a much cheaper camera. I have no problem with people that are trying to make their photography better, I support them 100%. My first pictures looked like crap, and I still have a long way to go.
Does it make sense now? I thought I clarified it enough.

And Anime is art, it's just a different style. I enjoy people's art a lot more when they have multiple styles, but I enjoy good anime art as well. A few ytears ago, when Anime Really started getting popular on DA.. there was an outbreak of people who could somewhat draw anime characters and they were claiming that their work was as good as Vey very very good Realism pictures, which is what sparked the whole anime is not art thing. There is still a mass of these people who are over-satisfied with their mediocrity, and honestly I don't think they really should be considered artists, but this doesn't encompass all of the anime style, just a part. Does that make sense? because I'm having a bit of hard time thinking.

You can learn some fantastic things on DA that will help you a lot. I started in the infancy of Digital photography, when even the Digital SLRS required a lot of skill to get a good picture out of them. Just play around with your camera as much as you can, and try all the settings, find out which work in which light, and if you have manual settings, play around with them. Check this article out too>> [link] It kinda accentuates my point. Awesome article. Good luck, and don't get discouraged.

Yay! someone that UNDERSTOOD!

god. everyone has thought that I meant EVERYONE with a DSLR, or everyone that takes crappy pictures. I only am bothered by the ones that think they are amazing, and don't want to improve themselves at all.
